Just because we’re stuck inside doesn’t mean we can’t go Into The Woods!
The woods can represent so many things…The unknown, adventure, being lost, being found, the outside world, your own heart…The woods is this pandemic; the woods is an eye-opening musical.
The themes of Into The Woods that we’ll explore together are the absence of absolutes, challenging assumptions, questioning “fairytales,” and, as the final ballad “No One Is Alone” beautifully teaches us, the importance of community. We need each other!
Singing Sondheim’s music is an adventure in itself! The melodies don’t take the obvious path, and the lyrics are cleverly tangled. We’ll focus on songs from the show that are most accessible to young singers.
If you enjoy Broadway but aren’t familiar with Into The Woods, this will be a great introduction to it. If you already love this show, this will be an opportunity to investigate it deeply.
Let’s hang out with the characters from Cinderella, Jack and The Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Little Red Riding Hood as they face the giant, the prince, the witch, and ultimately, themselves. Dun, Dun, Dun…
Let’s meet every day for a winter-woodsy-week with a group of young people who love musical theater just like you!
Thank you, Stephen Sondheim, for this masterpiece!
